2008 4.8i with third row

Hi E70 owner. I came across to a 2008 4.8i with only 39,000 miles the owner claimed that the Comprehensive Warranty will be expired on Feb of 2018 and asking for 25,000.
Sport package with 20" Rim size and 3rd row seat.

What should I look for when seeing the car? I am very familiar with the M62 engine but not this E70 I assume it is the N62 just like the 4.8is.

Coolant valley leak

Mechatronic sleeve, brake vacuum pump, valve cover gasket and valve seals...but f you still have warranty I will just bring the X in for a full PPI at the dealership.

In short look under the car for oil or.coolant.leaks. any such leaks you definitely want a bmw service.dept.to tell you what.is what. Very likely.the 4.8 motors will have or.develop leaks at.some point. There is a known coolant leak problem that can mean the block needs to be replaced ... I would guess bmw would.want 20000? I see from prior owner on mine paid 2500 for valve cover gaskets and upper.timing.chain gaskets. Saying all this a 2008 such low mileage could be a great.car.if a.fair.price. my 2007 has 107000 and that.isn't so much for a 9 year old.car.

I contacted the owner today and he said the rear main seal was replaced recently he also told me they changed the transmission fluid while performing the repair under 3rd party warranty.

The car only have premium audio, no nav and no backup camera. Have anyone installed a backup camera? I will check it out sometime next week.

Mine doesn't have nav but I have my iPhone. Mine doesn't have a backup camera but with proximity sensors I not.think it.matters.much.

That's a good deal price wise, assuming very good or better condition.

However, I would NOT get a vehicle with the third row seats unless you absolutely need them. Vehicles with 3rd row seats come with runflat tires and NO spare. Runflats are VERY expensive and a bit harsh riding. And if you have a flat in a remote place, you might have an issue finding a replacement. If your E70 has no third row, you get a space saver spare tire in its place, and conventional tires. There are FAR more tire options if you don't need runflats. Also, the third row is suitable for only small kids anyway.

One problem with finding a highly optioned E70 is that many have the 3rd row. There are SO many different options available on an E70, you need to set your priorities. If you want a used E70 with the exact options you would have ordered when new, you could be looking a LONG time. Use the VIN decoder, ( BMW Model Archive · BMW VIN Decoder · bmwarchive.org ) and make absolutely sure the car you are looking at has the options that are really important to you. As an example, there are several different front seats you can get in these cars, with various motorized options on top of that, plus options for heating, cooling and butt massage. I'd bet, all told, there are at least a dozen different options for the front seats alone. Make a list of the thing you must have, and then add the things you'd like. Most likely, you'll have to compromise somewhere, because even finding the right car, it has to be in the right condition at the right price. Some things can be easily added after the fact, (wheels and flares, although not cheap, are easy, adding satellite radio is also easy), some with a moderate degree of difficulty, (heated steering wheel), some damn near impossible to add later, (heads up display, switching from standard to DSP radio, etc.) So get a super clean car that checks your "must have" list, and any other gadget it has will be a plus, and you'll be happy. And a super clean car that has some mechanical issues can always be fixed, and you'll be much happier putting money into a car knowing it's in great condition cosmetically. And with ANY E70, you WILL be spending good money on repairs.

Anytime.

One other point; do NOT trust a dealer or private owner to tell you the correct options on their X5...in my search I found that they are frequently wrong. I don't think it's an attempt to deceive, it's just that the option list on an X5 is soooo long, and they get confused, or simply are not sufficiently knowledgeable about the car. Use the VIN decoder, or what you can see with your own eyes. For example, if you want air conditioned seats, magnify a seller's photo of the center console, and look for the correct button. If you want a heated steering wheel, look for the button on the wheel. If you want the upgraded stereo, look for the extra speakers on the doors.
