Fuel pump failure
 

My 2012 x5 35i stalled in the holland tunnel last week, I got half engine symbol malfunction on my display, I tried starting it but it would not, finally it had to be towed, after checking it out with ISTA/D I found the fuse for the fuel pump blown, I replaced it and the car it working again. I did a test drive and it seems to work great, I decided to replaced the fuel pump and the relay to be sure it won't happen again, anyone had this issue before?

most guys with earlier motors have fuel pump that melts connectors and sometimes burns out, myself included.

Well my wife's mini (2012) with about 34k KM on it decided to die on the driveway yesterday, right before we were supposed to leave to go to our cottage. Scanned codes, low fuel pressure. Suspect high pressure pump died.

BMW obviously hasn't fixed the HPFP issue in all its cars of that vintage

Many (many) years ago I was in a massive traffic jam at 5PM on a Friday evening, summer in july headed into the lincoln tunnel out of NYC. Like 18 lanes merging into 2....in a VW bug, no AC, just brutal hot stale summer in the city.....

All of a sudden the engine starts racing... I look out the rear view and smoke is pouring out the back.

Turn the engine off, jump out- open the engine lid- engine fire!! No water, no extinguisher...I had a cold cup of coffee from the morning, which I tossed on...then I take off my T shirt and beat the fire out.

Turns out the rubber fuel hose had cracked at the mechanical fuel pump, the fuel leaking then ignited and the fire melted the throttle return spring.

So, with people honking around me and two transit authority cops hassling me, I cut the hose, reclamped it... cut the spring, rebent the end, hooked it up....and off I went...shirtless.

Totally OT..but the 'Holland tunnel' and fuel pump triggered that little story....

It was embarrassing to say the least, those cops want that tunnel cleared quickly, I replaced the pump and relay yesterday did some work with ISTA/D and P, everything looks great, hope this pump last some time.

I have the same vehicle - 2012 X5. I also want to replace the fuel pump relay but I can't find it. One site said it was in the fuse box behind the trim panel in the cargo area passenger side. It wasn't there. So then I checked the fuses under the passenger below the glove box - it wasn't there either. I also looked under the hood for it, but still nothing. So where exactly is the darn thing?

Have you looked on newtis.info?

You should be able to find images of the module location.

My 2008 4.8i just had a recall for the fuel pump. I'd look into what years/models this applies to.
