sharing my armored x5

Hi everyone,
Thought I would share my 2012 Diesel, it has a III+ armor level. So that's about 600 extra pounds. it is not a factory armor. All glasses are 22mm thick.
Hope you like it! Feel free to ask questions!

P.S. Are there any lift kits available? mine sits lower cause of the weight, would love for it to be a few inches higher.

Where do you even find an armored x5? That is pretty cool.

this is in Honduras, Central America, they are a bit common, given the situation. There are companies here that do it for a fraction of a factory armor.

Love it! Do you know what the original build cost would have been? I've watched a few tv progs on armoured cars etc and the costs are astronomical! Pretty much a full tear-down of a band new SUV and rebuild with steroids!!

Taxes here on imports are horrible, the car itself was originally about $60K, the armor $35k, the dealer quoted a factory armor X5 for $220K:loco::loco::loco::loco:

Just the glass? What about inside the doors?

Doors and roof, are lined with kevlar (for weight savings), basically everything but the floor. The only stock glass, is the rear windshield, the armored one sits behind. Tires sometimes have an inside plastic rim, I only use run flats.

So I assume that there are quite a few car jackings???

bdriven 01-05-2016 12:31 PM

yes, you could say that. it has gone down a bit over the last couple of years. We got to a point that we had close to 10 car armoring companies. 3 years ago my wife was abducted right in front of me, I was able to fire one round, they fired 42 times back at me. My guess is, that, since the abduction didn't go quietly, they dropped her off 15 minutes later, needless to say, it felt like a lifetime, it literally sucked life out me.

OMG that is terrible! I read about this happening a lot in Guatemala and Columbia in the past. I am glad that your wife was returned unharmed. I assume that she was kidnapped to obtain a ransom?
