E70 hub adapter
What I'm trying to do is run "regular" BMW wheels (72.6mm hub diameter) on my E70 which has a hub diameter of 74.1mm
Has anyone tried it? I'm asking because there are tons of good wheel/tires 'regular' setups for sale on Craigslist but very few for E70. Can anyone recommend a good set of adapters too? Thanks |
I do not run your setup but do run adapters on the back (20mm).
I got mine from ecstuning.com What ever you get make sure you get hubcentric. |
yes as long as you get adapters you should be OK. I personally like the aluminum ones over the plastic but I am told both work fine.

Plastic? Sounds scary.
I'll order two sets (about $200) form ECS. Now I need to decide which wheels to buy. Thanks guys |
Be aware that many normal BMW wheels are not rated for a vehicle as heavy as an x5.I run adapters on the rear of my e70 for running x5m wheels.
They were custom made to my specified width I think they were like $130 a pair from a company in Las Vegas. They don't make plastic hub adapters I believe that poster is talking about hub rings not adapters. |
First post!
I'm still trying to understand how a wheel with a 76.2mm hub opening is going to fit on a 74.1mm hub. Are the adapters just spacers with a smaller hub bore? If so, would longer wheel studs be needed? |

I've had bad experiences with spacers... nasty steering wheel wobble at freeway speeds. These were nice machined units from Turner Motorsports too! |
I've never had issues with spacers on my M5. I've used 3, 5 and now 12mm in front. As mentioned above, not all wheels are rated for the X5. All my vehicles have 74.1mm hubs and whenever I've needed to, I've had a machine shop bore the hub opening out. Last time it was $200 for all four.

ANY form of wheel spacer is about the worst thing you can do to a cars set up. (unless you are just using them in order to use a wheel with the wrong offset; and even then I wouldn't use them)
|
I just bought a set of x6 wheels with snows on them for my e70 x5. I still don't get why BMW runs a 74.1 on the front and and 72.56 on the rears on the x6. Just use the same size altogether already. Anyways, had to get some spacers/adapters the go from the 74.1 hub on the back of the x5 to the 72.56 rear x6 wheels. I didn't really want a spacer but that's the only way they come since your going down in size and 12mm is the thinnest they had. $75 with longer lugs on eBay for a pair. Deal.

For the "bolt-on" versions I will only use H&R since the German TUV verifies their designs. For the "bolt-through" style spacers the quality of the bolts is crucial, the spacers/adaptors are less critical as long as they are dimensionally correct.
At one point I used a set of 74.1 to 72.6 adapters (20mm) with hub-rings on the outside to use my OE 74.1 wheels....don't ask :-) Since they are bolt-through not a big deal. |
ya the ones i ordered were bolt-thru version so I cant imagine they give me any trouble as long as the supplied lugbolts are good quality.

Sorry, yes I was talking about hub rings - I didn't see you were going the other way (small to big), yes hub adapters for big to small, just need longer lugs.
