PS fluid level and doughnuts.
Hi all I have a new CPO E70 2008. Out of habit. And being 'new to me' I look under the hood and check the few remaining non digital items.
When I opened the PS to check the levels the reservoir looked empty! I drove 5 minutes to the dealer hoping not to destroy anything. When I arrived it had of fluid inside. Checked again this morning and snapped this photo. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e2fe7a0bbb.jpg Looks like a doughnut with ps fluid in the hole. Also the hole in not centered. Non concentric is the fancy word. Running the engine with the cap off. Fluid fills up or. The doughnut sinks. Not sure. I can move the doughnut left and right with my finger. A little bit. After seeing the doughnut I got hungry and went to breakfast. Strangely I ordered eggs. Any insight on this. Should what I think is the filter be centered in the reservoir ? Does it float? Also the dipstick looks to have a tiny space between FULL mark and end of stick. Right at the end of the dipstick is full. Seems like the level would barely touch the dipstick bottom as FULL, but no MIN line. Seems not much of a dipstick level indicator? Any danger here? Can I add a little extra fluid in there for the morning start? Or bad idea to overfill? Finally check PS level hot or cold w/ engine running or off? Just to confirm I am looking At cold no running engine In the morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I never received any feedback on this.
My resolution was park on level ground and let sit overnight. Cold morning, add the proper fluid type up to the max line. I guess it was just low. I never received a warning. Strange it would come from the dealer this way :P Now when i check it visually, always reads full. |
in my case it was due to a leaky pump.
remove the black plastic shield and check for fluid. I filled it with lucas steering fluid/stop leak for now. |
