Infant Car Seat

I know this has probably been discussed before and I did a search but nothing recent.

Where is the best and safest place to install an infant car seat? I bought a Uppababy Mesa and it supports LATCH and seat belt. I think the LATCH can only be used if installing on the sides seats. If installing in the middle I would need to use the seat belt. In terms of securing the base, would he LATCH be more effective than using the seat belt?

Mine is installed in the middle. The LATCH systems goes through an opening in the armrest. Is detailed in the owner's manual but essentially you slightly lower the armrest, fish the LATCH through than down the back of the seat to the anchor point in the middle which swivels.

I don't quite remember if the center seat has dedicated anchors for the base or if I simply used the inner anchors from the two side seats.

Let me know if you still have trouble with it and I snap a couple of pix tonight.

Safest is middle. The side impact/airbag thing you know. If you can help it, keep an infant away from it.

I'll install in the middle. Thanks everyone.

This was a huge help as my wife is due this weekend with our first child. Thanks a ton to the people that contributed to this thread!!!

There are no dedicated anchors for the latches in the middle seat (not talking about the rear anchors for the over-the-seat tethers), I was pissed I found this out after I bought my E70 so I had to put my youngest on the sides. Now they're older and in full Recaro forward facing seats...

But even if you chose to use the middle seat most anchor/latch straps will not reach to the inner most anchors...

What doesn't make any sense is that they know the middle seat is the safest but do not install the LATCH for the middle seat.

Yeah! My Honda Ridgeline had 3 sets across the back seat...

I forgot which brand I had when they were infants, but it reached fine in the e53.

You can also get the rear side impact airbags dissabled by the dealer.

^safest is the sides with the airbags turned off, and the child seat facing backwards up until a certain age (16 months in Sweden/Norway). Try avoid the middle if possible as the risk of things coming through the windshield and straight through to the back is higher.
