E70 X5 35d Vacuum Hose Replacement Guide

1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I decided to put together a reference guide to replacing the vacuum hoses on the 35d models. I haven't had the time to put together a full DIY guide but this one at least gives you an idea as to the parts needed and I also included some of the diagrams for quick reference.

If you have any questions please feel free to post here or PM me

Great write up. I did hot side last month and will do the intake side this weekend. You may want to include part #s for r&r of the intake.

tangential port gasket #11617790198 - you’ll need 6.
swirl port gasket #11612246945 - you’ll need 6.
EGR valve seal #11612245439 - you’ll need 1.
throttle body and EGR valve #13547792098 - you’ll need 1.

part numbers above are from here http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...low-plugs.html

I was thinking of including those however I didn't have to replace mine. I just cleaned them up and they were good. The main reason why I wouldn't replace them is because if you haven't done the walnut blasting to remove the carbon deposits, you'll be forced to replace them again at that point. No sense in replacing them twice. I'm still planning to have mine walnut blasted so for me, saving $80 in seals was a no brainer since I'll be doing them later this year.

I don't think it's a bad idea to mention these parts so I'll see about including information about our options.

I really hope the major carbon build up issue is more of an e90 problem. Those guys really have it rough. Our 2 EGRs and extra load may save us from the worst of it. My 09 was only driven 25k miles between 2009 and 2015 so I may find a mess when I get it apart.

My original plan was to leave those vacuum hoses for now but after feeling around I can tell I have a few bad spots. I also need to do the engine partition which when removed will give me slightly more room to work. I am still getting random hesitation under less than full boost and I really hope it is vacuum related.

If you are getting hesitation and find no bad vacuum hoses you may want to look into a failing pressure converter. The good news is that you can easily replace them while doing the hoses. The bad news, they are a little pricey....about $200ea
