Rear center vent and rear DVD player removal/replacement

I'm going to replace the broken rear center vent and remove the rear DVD player this coming weekend. I've searched several times and have found a couple DIYs on this but none with pictures - probably my fault I can't find the correct DIY...sorry! If anyone has better links to the DIYs for this please post.

The DVD player is going to be professionally cleaned at a local car stereo shop. It's been giving the "cannot read disc" error about 95% of the time. From what I understand the lubricant used on the arm hardens/becomes tacky over time. Hopefully this is the only issue. If the DVD player isn't repairable I may just remove the entire system.

Thanks!

Probably no DIYs out there. Your best bet is to follow the diagram on realoem

I did find several documents on removing these...maybe I'll do a DIY over the weekend for this.

I too have a broken vent slider on the rear passenger side and cannot reattach it without removing the damn vent.

If you still have the tab and inner parts you can fix it with super glue - I did this with the front left "double" vent in the dash. Both were broken and I had the parts...very easy fix. I can explain more if you'd like. Unfortunately my rear center vent is missing the tab and parts - maybe it fell down the vent tube and I can fish them out.

Here are the .pdfs I found on removing the console, vent, etc.

Yes I would love a little assistance as I don't want to break anything. I do have the pieces and was going to attempt it this weekend. It should be pretty straightforward but as I've come to find with this truck that nothing is as easy as it looks.

I also wanted to clean up that DVD player. It doesn't read DVDs as it should and Its an annoyance. I had friend with us in the car for a trip up to Elkhorn and they were playing with the buttons in the back and got that damn error on the screen. It's used maybe twice a year but I don't like having it not functioning.

This was for the front left "double" dash vent but it should work on the rear center vent. First, get the vent out and take it apart - there are tabs - pretty straight forward. The vent fins will come out and are loosely held in with some small connectors.

One of the interior vent fins has a loop on it to hold the connector piece that attaches to the tab (piece that sticks out you use to move the vent fins up/down/left/right). All I did was figure out how to piece it together then super glue to tab back onto the connector piece. I used a toothpick to apply the glue so it wouldn't get on anything else. Good luck!

Replaced the rear center vent yesterday and got the DVD player out and took it to hopefully be repaired. The vent was a major PITA and took about an hour once I got the side carpet and other trim pieces out. It was extremely difficult to remove the old one - had to use a lot of force to get it out. Installing the new vent wasn't much easier - had to force it into position. If anyone need parts from my old vent please let me know - it's in good shape but just missing the right side vent tab. DVD player was super easy to remove - only held in by 2 screws.
