You can have a plastic key which can open the doors and start the car when it is inserted in enclosure(dummy key). It costs only $60-70 and is also impervious to water intrusion as it has a sealed transponder inside. You can also buy a regular, non KG key to hide or as a spare. They are around $120-130 nowadays.
In case someone local needs it, I can program BMW keys mcuh cheaper than the dealer ;)

I specifically asked my dealer about that and they were unaware of such a key. Do you have a link? Thanks

I dont know if it is available from BMW for all models, but i make a lot of them especially for customers that practice water sports. But I believe it must be available for all E series.

Keeping the spare key in the car is a good is a good idea too. If a key is inside the car when the car is remotely locked with another key it will be disabled until the car is opened with the same key it was locked. It is a good idea to check if the key left inside will work if the car is opened with the metal blade. A possible downside would be that if someone breaks in the car and pushes the start button he may find out he can leave with the car easy.

Exactly my concern. I bit the bullet and bought a complete fob for $365 and double sealed it in zip lock pouches and hid it on the outside of the car. Turns out on the M Sport body work the two lower outside fake grills pop out easily for a great storage location. Not saying I hid it there.

I thought cars with comfort access would not go to sleep with a key inside? Is that overridden if it's locked with another key?

That's what I was told too. I have comfort access and when I placed the spare key in the glove box slot the car locked with my key outside.

Read post #12. Even if you leave the key in the slot on position 1(accessories) , the car will shut down and go to sleep after some time.

I tried to lock the car with one demote and open it with the physical key from the second remote. The engine started with the remote that I had hidden in the car. I don't have comfort access and because of that my car doesn't start with a push of a button.
On the other hand, on my wife's car that has comfort access, the actual remote has to be very close to the dashboard in order to start the car. If the remote is hidden, say in the trunk, the car doesn't start.
Btw, locking the car with one demote or physical key, it doesn't disable the other key. Its like two people with two different keys are using the same car. If one locks it, it doesn't mean the other one can't open the car unless it has the key that locked the car

Please read carefully. Only the key left in the car is disabled temporarily.
Obviously your situation not having KG is completely different than a car equipped with KG.
