AC Not cooling on one side
 

Hey all!


I tried doing a search for this in the x5 e70 forum and can't find any good information.

Do any of you know if there is a DIY for swamping out the mixing valve that controls heat for dual climate control (water valve)?

I sense there is a DIY coming....

That happens when the system is low on refrigerant. Go get it checked, doubt is a mixing valve

Same thing happened to my E53 X5. A quick fill with freon and it was good as new. Hasn't had a problem since (several years now).

Not in my case. I did charge the system and still had an issue.
Now that I did the valve the cool air blows on both sides.

Subscribing. Our cars seem to follow similar breakdown patterns, so I'm pretty sure I'll have to do this at some point.

Interesting, I haven't seen anyone else post with a similar issue.

X5 3.5i 2011 - This is my wife's car, and she has always said that her a/c doesn't cool the air as much as my old 2006 Honda Pilot's does.

This past weekend we were out and about, and my daughter sitting on rear passenger side asked me why hot air was coming from rear passenger side vent. This was a hot Sunday afternoon with air conditioning on full blast. I checked the front vents and both were blowing cool air, with passenger side being a little warmer, but not significantly.

Then I moved my hand behind to check the air vents behind the armrest, and rear-left side was blowing cool air, as expected, but the rear-right side was blowing HOT air, as in burning my finger hot.

Any idea if this could be result of low freon, or if it is a sign of the valve gone bad? I can't think how low freon could result in that hot of an air blowing inside (temp was like heater was turned on to high), but then again I have been surprised before. But if it is the valve, then I would expect both front and rear passenger sides would blow hot air. Front passenger side was pretty cool (not as cold as the driver side, but still nothing like the rear vent.)

Any feedback or experience with similar issue would be appreciated, as the part (valves) seem to be expensive and don't want to buy it if I don't need to.

It would be good to focus on a 'differential diagnosis' for this issue... how is 'bad water valve' different from 'low freon failure'??


is it that freon is warm on the one side- but the water valve is HOT air, not just 'poorly cooled air'?

Any ideas?
