Comfort access handle partial failure?

Looks like the capacitive sensors on my rear drivers side door handle have stopped working. Bit odd -
  • Key battery is fine because the other doors work as expected
  • Not that I have the key too far away, still fails if I have the key in my hand right next to the handle
  • Hall effect sensor still works as when I pull the handle the door unlocks - also suggests there's nothing wrong with the key or antenna in the door handle

Seems odd that both capacitive sensors in the door have gone at the same time - both lock and unlock. Is this common? Anything I can try before booking in to be replaced? It's under warranty so that's fine just going to be a pain finding the time to take it in.

So this morning still not working. Parked. Came back this evening and it's working... odd.

I'd rather it was completely broken - intermittent faults are the worst.

It's mentioned in many places on the forum, but bears repeating - issues with the Comfort Access door handles are very often the early first sign of low battery (vehicle battery, not remote).
As for it being only that door, maybe that one is the last one on the circuit; the issues seen when batteries start dying do not always make sense.

My battery read low for the better part of a year, and I had NO issues at all, but the dealer still tested it and deemed it needed replacing. So you never know.

Anyway, check that and if not, at least you have eliminated that potential cause.
And if its not, please post that back up here.

Just as an update I changed the battery in my fob (despite no warnings about low battery or issues with other doors) and haven't had the issue since despite lots of wet weather. Just picked up the car from service - I asked them to check for any error logs related to comfort access or a low battery but everything came back clear.

Perhaps the antenna in that handle is slightly weaker than the others and having water on the handle interferes with the signal enough that a lowish battery in the key causes issues. :dunno:
