So I'm hoping someone can give me some quick advice even though this is with my 2006 330i and not my x5... but I'm a bit stuck and don't have my login info for other sites. I believe that my E90 has the same N52 as the E70 however... 175k miles and no major issues... 20 mins ago got smell of burnt oil and smoke from engine and shut down right away. Please see pics? Am I screwed? Any ideas much appreciated..

Edit.. There is clearly a lot of oil in there by the front three cylinders

Maybe it's just a gasket and if I sop up the oil I can drive it?

Call AAA. Free tow. Anyone with older cars should have AAA. I have their "200 miles" plan...

:(

You are going to need a new valve cover gasket and a set of aluminum bolts. This is an 06 E90 330i thing and the bolts cannot be reused. Does anyone know if the X5 ever used the metal valve cover w/aluminum bolts? When I did my 330i, 2 or 3 of the old aluminum bolts were already broken off. I had to drill and tap out the threads. Change your spark plugs while everything is apart.

should do the vanos sensor too if pulling the valve cover.
