DPF Location and removal?
I was just informed that my wife's 2010 x5 35d has a clogged dpf filter. I am looking for some help/suggestions to locate and replace it.
Thanks |
These guys in Canada do it
DPF Cleaning Specialists Ltd. Search for providers close to you. The dpf is located just below the turbo on the passenger side, if you open your hood. You'll need to either drop the subframe or remove one of the engine mounts to get it out |
Thanks. Do you or anyone else have pics? Is this a hard repair to do at home?

The thing is, clogged DPF is not the cause for the problem(s) that your car has. Different codes and conditions in the engine will prevent the DPF regeneration cycle to start and the DPF will clog again over time. Even if you clean it and other problems are not fixed it will clog again over time.

Google Rheingold ista/d software. Without that, you will have trouble doing anything on a diesel. Your issue could be as simple as a bad thermostat. If your engine never gets above 70 or so degrees c, your DPF may not regenerate and it could clog. A few 335d people have fixed clogged DPFs without removal. Search in the E90 diesel forum.

The Bluetooth OBD11 Dongie and the app above is very popular. There is a hidden temperature gauge on your dash.If your trermostat is messed up,not getting to correct temperature the car will not regen.Car has to get hot enough to regen. To find the temp gauge you just press and hold the odometer trip button but there is a process that must be followed.Youll need to add up the last 5 digits in your cars vin # to unlock screen to get to the gauge.

There's better instructions but this is what I used.I'm not saying this is your issue but can be done at home to check temp.I've read the thermostat is only good for about 2 yrs.Once you figure it out it's easy to do.Now go for a hard drive and watch what it does.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4twRvy20i5A
