Radio/Tires/Wheels
Hello All,
I have been a long time lurker, This place has a ton on info. I have a few questions that I did search on and I just wanted to verify Im thinking right , So here we go, Bought the wife an 08 X5 last year, so far its been a good car, she is very pleased We had a storm & the radio quit working as well as my display for settings of my idrive controller in the center of my console, I took it to my indy BMW guy and he said something about the CCC wasn't communicating, A new radio would fix the issue, (He said he could communicate with everything with his diagnostic tool and everything was working except the display. Question #1 - Current radio is AM/FM/6 Disc CD Changer, Can this be replaced with one with Sirius or DVD or navigation along with a different screen? Is this something that can be replaced easily or is there alot more to it than changing radios & screens and coding to be honest she is fine with AM/FM/CD replacement. I was thinking if i had to buy a radio anyhow, would this be the time to upgrade? Does Anyone Have One For Sale? Question #2 - probably sounds crazy, she wants new some wheels, she wants to stay with 18", my question is how big of an 18" tire can we put on the front instead of the 255/55/18 ? how big of an 18" tire can we put on the rear, Do I need a spacer or can I use a wider wheel in the rear to accommodate the bigger tire and what would the wider rim offset be? Im ok with something the same size square, just bigger than 255/55/18? Sorry for the novel, Thanks in Advance Freddy |

Did you look for any water leaks into the electronics bay? Clogeed sunroof drains, etc? Search. Im not sure the computer communication diagnostic is adequate. Stick with square tires...same size front and rear, and rotate. MUCH better tire life. Just look at the tires you want, look at larger sizes and match your rim width to the tires 'rim width range'. Whaever size is fine as long as front and rear are matched. Id hold off on tire upgrades until you figure out the extent of the 'radio' issue... |
