E70 Help! Need a picture of the fuse panel in the front passenger footwell.

I was inspecting fuses to diagnose a problem with my climate control, and I must have accidentally put one in the wrong spot, because now my car won't start and it throws all kinds of errors. I'm pretty sure I screwed up somewhere in #s 11-20, because they're so difficult to access!

Could someone take a picture of theirs with all the fuses in place so I can see how mine is wrong? I have the diagrams, but it's unclear which spots should remain empty. I've got the 3.0si, by the way.

Thanks!

Unless the e70 fuse diagrams are totally different than other BMW models...you should be able to use the diagram to figure this out. :)

Every BMW fuse diagram I've seen...will list the fuses in alphabetical order with their fuse location within the fuse box. Then there's usually an illustration of the fuse box that is "numbered" and will also list the fuse's amperage.

If you pulled fuses 11-20...then look at your fuse diagram that shows the fuse number location...then insert the proper color (and amperage) fuse in the correct fuse number. If there are empty spaces...it will either be because you don't have the option that the fuse location is for...or it's supposed to be empty which will be indicated by a slash/dash or no info for that location.

EXAMPLE: in the pic below of the e53 X5's rear fuse location...even if you couldn't see the actual fuses...you could tell what fuse and it's amperage goes into each location by following the diagram. The fuse location on the far left is fuse #72...and the fuse on the far right is fuse #87...and fuse #76 (which is the 5th fuse from the left) should be empty. You can see in the illustration of the fuse box...what the fuse's amperage is supposed to be...so you can't really go wrong if you follow the fuse index/diagram:

EDIT: I just googled for a BMW e70 fuse index and found the image below. Is this how your diagram looks?

If yes, then fuse #11-#20 (based on the illustration for the front passenger area) are 2 columns of fuses on the far left. Fuse #11-#15 are the 1st column and fuse #16-#20 is in the 2nd column. If you look at the upper illustration that gives/shows the fuse number location/fuse amperage rating for the aforementioned fuses...you should be able to easily figure out what fuse (by color & amperage) goes into each of the fuse locations for #11-#20. Fuses that are the same amperage are also the same color:

Hopefully some e70 X5 owners will chime in to verify my comments since I'm working blind (I own an e53 X5....not an e70).

Thanks for your help. Yes, that is the diagram I have. The problem is that it indicates amperage in many slots that are meant to remain empty on mine. I think I'm going to have to pull that fuse box out. It is so difficult to access the fuses.

Think I got it figured out!

So, I had put the #13 fuse in #20 by accident. As soon as I moved it, the car started right up. The question is, should there be a fuse in #20? I don't think there was. I guess it depends on my options.

So, FYI, a missing fuse in #13 will not only prevent your E70 from starting, it will throw transmission, ASC, DSC, and 4X4 errors.

Great...thanks for the update...I was hoping that you could work this out just using the diagram. :)

Does the e70 X5 have an alphabetical list with the illustrated diagram that tells what the fuses are for?

Like in the pic of my e53's rear fuse panel...all the BMWs I've owned previously always have an alphabetical list of fuses. If so, then look for what fuse #13 is for (as well as the other fuses you had a question about).

EDIT: Never mind...I went back to google...and it appears the e70 has changed from an alphabetical index of fuses...to a chart of symbols to explain what each fuse is for (Geesh...why do they make things more difficult?) :dunno: ...I'll go ahead and assume that the symbols are defined/explained somewhere in the owners manual.
