Will these Mufflers fit on a 4.8I E70
Many options and many opinions so, here it goes. I'm looking at putting Ford Mustang Gt500 Mufflers on my X5. Love the deep sound they put out but, the question is will they fit if they are placed in at 90 degrees attached to stock tips? I know the fab work around them will have to be custom for everything to fit together.

Mufflers don't "put out" sound. They muffle or resonate engine sound, sound that an individual engine produces.
With that, I can assure you that no one knows the answer. The only way would be to take measurements or attempt a practical fit up. Why you would want to do this or why you are expecting that your X5 will sound like the mustang gt with the mufflers that are supplied with that car, I have no idea. The way that car sounds to me, there's not much to them and you'll probably achieve better sound by deleting your mufflers. You're the second person coming on here in love with the mustang sound. |
GT500 Mufflers
I do have the measurements now. Height: 6-1/4", Length: 15-5/8", Width: 12".
I guess one reasons is to do it is because it hasn't been done before. I'm not 100% sold on the sound of the muffler delete, potential drone and kinda sounds a little truck-ish. That can be my back up plan if this doesn't work. I like the sound that these mufflers specific resonate the engine sound. There are very different sounds from Mustang GT vs Mustang GT500 sounds and the cost is cheap. They also have H-pipes so, I think sound will be close. I picked these up for $250 plus whatever cost to fab up. The potential of no drone is a plus! |
You will not be able to mimic the sound of a supercharged American V8 by putting those mufflers on a BMW V8. How silly. You would have been better off buying universal mufflers or a dedicated axle back system.

your exhaust sound is made up in almost equal parts by your header geometry and exhaust system as well as the type crank your engine uses and its firing order. to assume you get a similar sound out of a fundamentally different engine just by transplanting a muffler from one you like the sound of is very optimistic, to say the least. by all means, do the job and report back with your results but i'm guessing that the guys in the know on here are right, your beemer will sound nothing like a mustang.

I guess this another reason do it. I'll do a before and after and we will see. I was basing the idea off a mustang GT NA sound that is stock vs with gt500 mufflers. Nothing about superchargers or turbos involved. Can't mimic that sound for sure. I remember the question being " will they fit " but thanks anyways for the input. This will be fun.

You also haven't mentioned the exhaust piping diameter vs the inlet diameter of the muffler. I'm pretty sure the factory X5 piping is 2.25" and the GT500's is 2.75". Of course there are adapters and ways to make it fit, but with enough time and money anythjng can be made to fit. Best of luck.
