Spark Piugs - Recommended Service

I was going to schedule an appointment for the 2 recalls (airbag and fuel pump) along with oil service. They also said service recommendation for mine is to change spark plugs (mine is an '08 with 85K miles). Of course I won't do that at the dealer but is it really necessary or just preventative maintenance?

I know the interval is 100k. we had it done same time valve cover gasket was replaced at about 105k.

HAVE YOU RECEIVED a letter from BMW indicating the replacement airbag modules and fuel pump are available?

I am in California which is a Phase I (i.e., earliest to replace) location for the recall repairs. Yet, I have yet to hear when such parts are available.

Curious to know if the actual work has started or not. Thanks.

Nothing yet on the fuel pump just the initial letter on the airbag workaround (until the parts come in). The SA I went to didn't really do too much he just said "We'll know what parts are available on recalls once we bring your car in".

Ok, thanks.

I'd recommend replacing them once every 60k-100K miles depending on what you do with your truck. BMW recommends 100K miles, but if your towing, racing, want the best performance I'd recommend more often. I just replaced mine and they looked pretty worn and tired at 91k miles.

MY09 the interval was changed to 60k - same engine.

That's too bad, it sucked really bad changing them. Though I'll be much faster on that driver side rear spark plug. I almost wish I replaced the coil pack as a preventative given how much of a hassle it was to get it out.

My car has 91K miles and the plugs look heavily erroded, I'd recommend replacing them more often. But I wasn't getting any misfires..

Just changed my plugs today at 101k. My old plugs looked like isht with 2 of them showing some oil residue. I didn't really notice a difference after the change, but good to know they're all new.

It's a good item to service but very rarely makes any performance difference.
