CCV Failing ?

My X has been making this noise for the past couple of months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1Gi...ature=youtu.be

I have a feeling that the CCV is shot and is causing that noise.:dunno: First thought it was a pulley, but they are fine. Also the noise isn't present in the first 2-3 minutes of start up. It starts to make the noise after 3-4 minutes. Has anyone replaced the CCV without replacing the valve cover? I see some kits on eBay, but wondering if they are legit. Any feedback is appreciated.

Which engine do you have? On the 4.8i at least the CCV is cheap and easy to replace. Their are two valves and each cost about $20 a piece and take about 20 minus to replace.

The D's never seem to die.

The inline sixes (I own a 335d/4.8i X5) I think, but I don't own one; have the CCV integrated into the valve cover. So they maybe harder to replace.

Yes, part of the CCV system on the 4.8i is integrated into the valve cover as well.

I have the 3.0si. You think the CCV is failing ?

A typical test for a blown CCV is.... Idle the engine, and remove the oil dipstick, if the engine runs rough generally your CCV is fine. If there is no change in idle its likely your CCV is bad. Or if you remove your oil cap and no engine idle change occurs or you feel no suction when removing the cap. Also you would notice higher than normal oil consumption.

Typically if its bad enough to hear it will throw codes. Have you had your car scanned?

It could also be some kind of vacuum/pressure leak.
