Quarter Panel Windows Replacement
Hi all,
Merry Christmas! I woke up to both of my quarter panels in my 2013 X5 broken. I've looked online, but I haven't found any quality guides to doing a replacement of the window myself (I figured a door window would be easier to replace, not sure why someone decided to break a quarter panel). Some immediate questions: Is there any downside to purchasing an OEM window off of eBay (it seems that these windows are coming from totalled cars). This seems much cheaper than buying them from the dealership ($110 vs $330). For comparsions sake, SafeLite has quoted ~$900 to do the replacement. Secondly, can anyone give me some direction as to how to clean up the broken glass that is still adhered to the frame, and to install the new window? A relatively detailed explanation would be appreciated. I have watched a video for an E39, but I don't think that will work with this car (maybe I'm wrong). Thanks a bunch! |
Bump - Any help?
Would be much appreciated. Thanks! |
Insurance? I pay $100 deduct for glass, and it is covered under Comprehensive so no impact on rating/costs.
I wont use safelite- low cost, low skill, low quality. All IMO |
$1000 deductible.

Bummer.
For future reference, see if there is a lower 'glass deductible' you can buy. Id bet it is far less that one windshield every two years. Call a local auto glass shop- not a national brand. Explain the situation, they might say 'bring us the glass we can do it for $75 per side'..or something. I do know that if you screw up the moldings, it can double the cost of the job. Good Luck! |
