Hi. I'm quite new here but looking for some information about coolant drain plug location on the block (if there is any). I have located the one at the bottom of the radiator (blue plastic screw). It seems I can only flush out about 5 litres of coolant from that plug. I was changing the upper hose (from mechanical pump to top of radiator) as the o-ring was leaking coolant. Also as described the little hose that runs off the side of this plastic housing broke when I moved it (very brittle). Great info and very informative. I will look into replacing the temperature sensor also.

Did you pull out your Vanos Solenoids? if so you need to change the inner gasket which seems it between the time cover, and the Vanes chamber inside the block. The outer big rings don't matter so much if they are not leaking but the inner ones flatten out and leak, causing you to lose pressure to your vanes.

WOW! I must have read through this tutorial 100x when working on most of these maintenance items alongside my Indy (‘06 4.8is) I’ve since acquired an ‘07 4.8i with 82k miles. While I’m not desperately in need of doing everything all over again on this newer truck. I did want to start with a coolant flush before starting to collect parts for a future overhaul...2-3yrs out from now if lucky! Anyway, along with simple coolant flush using Pentosin NF...I was also going to do logic7 thermostat and possibly waterpump. My questions for anyone who knows are:

1) it appears that there is a regular water pump and an auxiliary water pump. Should both of these be replaced during the overhaul or is the plastic aux one (with 4-zone hvac) to be trusted as a non-high-failure item?

2) I will inspect as many hoses as possible before digging in, but in addition to o-ring set (already on order) is it advisable to replace ANY of the coolant hoses (I counted like 4 or 5) or JUST stick with all o-ring replacement as long as the hoses look in good order? From past experience, I feel like the upper radiator hoses do not last.

Any help with these two questions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
