2013 35d coolant temps
I'm suspicious of a low coolant temp on my 13' 35d with 75k, this is repetitively new to me. I logged the temps this morning, it is about 35 degrees Fahrenheit outside today. On my 20 minute commute to work it hovered around 80-83 degrees Celsius which seems low? Should I just order a new pump\thermostat and get it done?

I am fairly new to the 35d as well, but from journal a board member posted this:

Seems a bit low but not terribly so
Mine ran about high 60s, max 70C before I changed the thermostat. It should be about 88 but even with my new thermostat I did not consistently hit that number. Haven't checked in a while now.

That's not unusual given the ambient temperature. Same here for me in MN, on average. I just had my t-stat done on my '11 X5D back in early December. I live about 20mi outside of downtown St. Paul, and ran at about 84F for most of my commute home yesterday, at 40ish F ambient.
Just keep an eye on it over time. When it starts to fail, you'll likely not even hit 80F. Even running hard for highway trips in DS, I couldn't get past 78F before I had mine replaced. |
The thermostat is supposed to be open at 88°C. In cold weather, it is not surprising that it hovered around 80C. Its probably just starting to become an issue, if at all.
Edited to correct myself. |

I'll continue to monitor my temps and see if things change at all with the ambient temps. I'm getting a NOX code that keeps coming back, I was thinking it could be related to the low coolant temps and regen? Once I have more I'll update here. Thanks!

But under 75C, glowplugs may still be active, which at a minimum means they're working extra time and you'll be running inefficiently on account of a rich mix. |

What tipped me off that I needed to check my coolant temp was that my glowplug module has a burnt output. It's running overtime and can't handle the stress. I have a new thermostat, water pump, and glow module that I hope to install this after noon. |
