35d intake pipe from MAF to Turbo, Anyone replace it?
 

Has anyone replaced this pipe #3 on realoem? if so do you know if it comes with the small pipe and sensors #5?

I had to clean mine recently. Can confirm that sensor at #5 and small pipe can be separated from big pipe and each other.

If you don't mind, why replacing #3?

In case it cracked when removing the small pipe. It seems very fragile and I was worried it would break.

It is actually likely to crack as it ages due to amount of oil from crank case ventilation that passes through it. The rubber was designed for gas, not hot oily mixture that was actually passing through it.

That pipe in my 35d failed last November for that reason.

I wasn't going to pay $220 for a piece of rubber (the price is high because cannot buy just the pipe - have to purchase with sensor), so found a good generic graded replacement at local racing shop.

The small rubber pipe is oozing oil on mine too. Along with the main charge pipe.


I think I'll be pursuing my own solution.

Luckily the big plastic elbow that goes to the MAF was recently replaced before I bought the car. As I guess it had split.

Well I ordered both of those since they are sold separate. I wanted the main pipe in case it breaks when trying to get the small one out.

So just for reference, I ordered the pipe and it came in with the small hose, clamps, sensor, and rubber grommet.

I was told it is separate pieces from two places, so I thought I would share since that was not the case. The piece is an OE part too directly from BMW.

Would be really nice if there was an aftermarket full intake solution out there for the x5d with higher flow that deletes the "intake muffler" but still acts as CAI. Hearing the turbos more would also be a good thing!

Agreed on needing an aftermarket piece. But if you want to hear the turbos the DPF delete makes them plenary loud.

Have already picked up those unmentionables :thumbup: They are not installed yet, still trying to decide tune route. Talking with Jarek right now about his 2.8 tune.. Just saying I wouldnt mind the added benefit of hearing the turbos more on a short ram CAI.
