CCC Nav Problem Fixed - Replaced DVD Optical Pickup!

So the NAV in my 2008 E70 with a CCC system starting to act up with the map dropping in and out for a while before I had no map.

Searched pretty hard but could not find CLEAR information about what optical pickup the CCC system had for the NAV DVD. Ordered one pickup, but it turned out to be the wrong one because I could not find good info.

I of course found out I had the wrong pickup when I finally pulled the CCC unit out, which is not all that hard. Pop the HVAC center duct out, 2 screws fro the climate control head unit, 4 screws for the CCC unit.

Once I finally tore into the CCC NAV DVD player, found out at least for my system it was a DVD M3.5 system. Ordered a new optical pickup on ebay from a US supplier, part arrived in like 3 days. Swapped out the optical pickup. Put everything back together and SUCCESS!!

Optical pickup was $40, I could have shopped it, but coming from Asia, I would probably still be waiting on it. So spent a few more bucks and the now I have a working NAV system again!!

Only soldering is to remove the "shorting" solder bridge on the optical pickup cable, but this is NO PROBLEM for me. Only about 14 screws to get the NAV DVD player out of the CCC head unit. The 3 screws to remove the DVD top circuit board with a few cables. Then just take out one of the optical pick up guide rods and the pickup pops out. You need to move the small top bracket from the original pick up to the new pick up.

You WILL need some small Torx screw drivers, T9 and T6.

Fortunately or unfortunately this is NOT the first BMW optical pickup I have changed out over the years.
