leaking gasket under oil cap
I had a shop do my valve cover gasket due to a leak almost a year ago and they supposedly cleaned up the mess. But I was under the engine cover to get at the sparkplugs and noticed the oil cap area seemingly leaking oil. There's a flap/gasket under the cap and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be moving about like in the video. I used degreaser to clean it up and only time will tell if this is left-over or an active leak / somewhat acceptably normal?

If it's higher mileage, then I would just replace it. Cheap piece of mind. I had to do that on my e46 m3 after 100,000.

Thanks, but it's only 52k mi at the moment. What part am I replacing though? It's not the valve cover gasket (already done).

Isn't that just a trim piece for the engine cover? You might try replacing the cap, looks like a little bit of oil vapor is just making its way out from the crankcase pressure. I'm not familiar with these engines, do they have a crankcase breather? If so, might want to verify it is functioning normally.

Sorry, I was talking about the oil cap. They come with new gaskets installed.

Replaced the filler gasket in mine around 70k because the rubber cracked all the way around. Seems that the edge of the oil cap cutout on the engine cover sits on top of the gasket cutting into it over time.

You want to replace the profile gasket: 111 278 06 507.
Seals the oil filler tube to the valve cover. |
