I haven't checked the tube at the block, but it feels secure. I guess I should have thought of this when I had the car up on jack stands with the splash shield and reinforcement plate off. I would expect that if it's not secure that it would leak a lot? Also, dipstick seats properly in the tube. I'll check when I'm underneath it next.

On your oil change to 1l low for testing do you recall how much oil you put in and what the capacity normally is?

The capacity is listed as 8L. I initially put in 7.2L, so that it would register at the low point on the dipstick. I later topped it up to 8L, and the dipstick now shows just below full. Seems to match expectations.

Also try checking the oil with the car facing down hill, on my 35d, it reads almost 1/3 lower at that angle, which might help you see if the sensor reads lower.

Interesting. I'll try that, but I suspect it will still read full no matter what I do.

Slightly off topic, but when I went to gather up info to put in for the used oil analysis, my records show that I've topped up the oil by 3.5L over 11k km!! And that is after I fixed the oil cooler thermostat gasket leak. May have to do all the gaskets soon, and maybe valve stem seals (even though no smoke from the tail pipe yet) while I'm in there.

I’ve read on other forums that a failing IBS can cause the oil sensor readings to be incorrest. I haven’t changed mine, but am getting an error...

Oil level sensor on my car is always reading full. Sigh, I just changed the oil too, and now I have to drain it to change the sensor
