Need service shop in/near Erie, PA
My son called tonight and the charging light is illuminating on the 2009 3.0i. It is also cranking slowly - I think it is the original battery. He is going to school in Erie, PA.
Can any forum members recommend someone that knows our vehicles and can get the job done right? I'm hundreds of miles away. Thanks... |
No specific advice...
The BMWCCA has a list of some local indys.... this might help: https://www.bimmershops.com/near/erie-pa/ If it is the alternator (could it be as simple as the belt??) then if the battery is old it might have been killed as well. Kid wrench or no? My son became VERY interested in DIYing when he started having to pay for all repairs. ;) |

See attached image for the shop, I help out there a few times a week. Otherwise if you want a dealer it's New Motors but they aren't the most friendly.

Thanks for the inputs. Not a wrench, unfortunately.
He is trying New Motors |
A dealer? for a simple alternator issue?
Report back. GL |
No charging issues, but the eccentric shaft sensor was bad. Not just oiled up, but failed 4 function checks. Breathtaking cost for what looks like a pretty simple electromechanical component. I told him to go ahead and he also replaced the plugs at 95K, which I was going to do anyway. Wallet $1500 lighter.
Ugh. I was afraid of this. I'll try a lot of repairs if it's sitting in my garage, but to have it hundreds of miles away really stinks. And my son is deep into a masters program at LECOM and really can't be messing with the X5. He was driving a Pontiac Torrent through most of undergrad and we now have it at home - he wants it back! |
