What's this?

Hello guys. My 35d 85k miles is making a screeching noise. I've located it but not sure what this tank is. Car is a 2012. It's the tank I'm pointing to. Under rear passenger side. Any help is appreciated

with the limited info you provided, if the noise comes and goes my guess is the pump that transfers def between the tanks is making the noise

Sorry. There is something making noise inside that thing I'm pointing to. It only makes noise once the car is on And the noise is steady.

About a week ago I got this code P0087- fuel rail system pressure too low. When I turned the car off and on, it disappeared.

I got an engine light on again while going up hill and all of a sudden the car died out. I came to a full stop on the bridge. Tried to turn it back on immediately and it hesitated. Waitited a minute and it turned on and engine light disappeared.

This noise that I'm experiencing now is coming from inside this tank pictured above. I tried looking for a p/n below

1. Any codes now??

2. You dont 'turn cars on'...you START them. ;)

3. You should buy a BMW specific reader, like Carly. It can read BMW specific codes, codes that dont show up on an OBD reader

4. Read this: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/att...6&d=1484855592

Does it look like the DEF passive tank?

I can't really tell what you're pointing at but my gut tells me it's your fuel tank and the screeching you're hearing is the fuel pump. Plus that would explain your low fuel pressure code and issues with the car running.

Nanny took the words out of my mouth, my very first (un)educated guess! Makes sense.

Thank you all for your help and recommendations. I bought a fuel filter, and got my hands dirty installing it. That seems to have done the trick.

There is an extended warranty on the fuel pump on certain models, so be sure to check the BMW Owner Reimbursement Program site to see if you are covered
