Replacing Rear Seatbelt Catch
Hi Guys,
About a year ago the local tire shop broke the red button you depress to unclick the seat belt. Long story..... I was wondering if anyone here has any experience replacing that part. Is it easy to do? The replacement part # 72117161640 Thanks in advance! |
Never done it, but assume it would be very simple- pay attention to any bolts/washers/parts when you undo the bolt, to make sure you get everything back in the proper order/orientation....

Based on the parts database diagram...the right rear lower belt (#14) is only anchored to the body of the car with the filister screw (#7 in the diagram below). As long as you have the tools to remove the screw...you should be fine. I don't know what the torque specs are (you can probably find that on the BMW TIS website...I used a 2012 X5 35i since didn't know what model to look up: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...ations/5g1Vsbe). Hopefully you won't need a breaker bar to undo that screw since the seat belts have to withstand a lot to secure passengers in the vehicle. TIP: encircled numbers in the diagram indicate hardware...and in this case...the hardware has its own "key" within the diagram  |
