LED Bulbs and Coding
 

I'm looking to update some exterior bulbs on my X5 to LED bulbs. My question is specifically is for the H11 fog light bulbs. I plan to change these to LED and see companies offering the LED fog lights along with resistors and wiring to prevent the errors. My question is, if I plan to code the car to not do do the cold/warm bulb check, are the resistors even necessary or will I still need them? I'm not sure if they serve any other purpose in this case. Can I just by any H11 LED fog if I plan to code? I will also be disabling the cornering lights to get rid that problem as well.

I imagine the e70 is like the e53 on coding for the most part and on the e53 you code out hot checking and cold checking to get around led bulb swaps.

So resistors are not needed if you plan on coding for them. Resistors are just to fool the car in to thinking its a normal bulb and working right.

That's what I was thinking as well, but I wasn't sure if the resistors reduced the heat of the actual bulb or served another purpose. Not trying to fry the lens or anything. Thanks for the feedback!

The bulbs run the same temp. The resistors get HOT. That's another reason I prefer coding for the bulbs and not using resistors.

I'm not very well educated on the topic actually, but I'll do my best. I ordered the Carly Wifi Adapter from Amazon ($82.90) and will have to download the Carly for BMW Pro App on my iPhone when it arrives. ($49.99). Seems pretty straight forward in regards to coding simple procedures. Search youtube for "Carly BMW" and you will find some useful videos on how to use.
