2007 BMW X5 NON-Air spring Suspension

So I have a little sag in the left rear of my wife's X5 4.8L. Anyone thats ever done a search on the internet regarding this issue, see's that it's all about a leaking bag or compressor..

So you can imagine my surprise when I had the rear end up and wheels removed... There are no air springs.

WHY AM I GETTING "SELF LEVELING SUSPENSION MALFUNCTION" CODE????

Does anyone have a NON-Air Spring suspension X5 and had this issue?

What suspension and/or sway bar can anyone recommend for the rear end so it Stands up right, and no sagging...

Thank you!

This may be a stupid question, but is the tire inflated properly?

Yes I believe so... I have had this code for a while now and finally got a chance to get under the X5.

The inner sticker on my drivers side door says 32psi front, 35psi rear (255x55x18)

Looks like the factory air springs were removed. You have a 3rd row seat right? If so all of those came from the factory with the self leveling rear suspension. Those look like aftermarket springs as OEM don't say Sun 21 on them. Sway bar does not affect ride height. Check for a cracked spring first.

I do have 3rd row yes.
So... why would the PO remove the airbags and go with shocks and springs? How do I tell the computer so I don’t get the Malfunction code?
Can I put air springs back in?

It can be very pricey replacing the compressor and/or bags, most likely reason. Chasing an airleak can be tedious too.

Just one reason why.

I’m not too fussed actually. The one thing is the rear sags alittle and or the wheels look like they are at an angle or tucked under the arch.. how’d I straight this out? I’ll have a look for a cracked spring...

Yup PO definitely swapped in regular springs. They left in the sensors, maybe adjusted them to the spring ride height. Not sure why it would've dropped unevenly, but an alignment shop could probably tell you pretty quickly.

Sometimes a spring gets a leak and then the compressor runs constantly until it burns itself out. Then the owner will just replace the springs with normal ones as the more reliable long term option. Search "coding BMW" locally to find someone local who can code your car to remove the option from the software config and the error will go away.

Also, ride height specs attached.
