Add Comfort Key Access

Does anyone know if it possible to add the comfort keyless access to a 2008 BMW X5 4.8? I can get the touch unlock door handle and I have seen where there are selling keyless modules with keys and antennas. I am just not sure what all is needed and if it is possible to add the touch open door handle and the option to start car without inserting the key. I purchased my car with 52k miles a few months after having a 2002 X5 for 10 years. The only thing that I do not like is that it does not have the comfort access locks. I would rather spend some money to add them if possible than buy another X5.

Anything is possible.

methinks you need to take a deep breath and rethink CA. Its a gimmick. I know people will gush about never owning another car without it. Whatever.

It fails, it is expensive to fix, the keys are expensive. Working on the coding, the CAS system, etc, will be VERY difficult (if you arent a skilled BMW coder.)

Any with the money you save you can pay for the issues that V8 may throw your way!

Yes...but it is useless option and dangerous. You are giving your keys and your car to somebody else... actually to anybody who has special transmitter :D
Think about it! Our insurances company are asking to have good immo if you are using it. It is not so hard to press button on remote instead on door handle!
You ca watch how easy it works for keyless option :D if you speak russian....

every morning we can read posts in facebook about stolen cars with keyless go options here in Riga:D
If we speak about Russia...numbers are huge!

It’s far from useless. I’m fact it’s a great feature. But it is difficult and expensive to retrofit. Kinda like HUD...great to have but not worth adding.

Having watched the video and my wife translate for me, I would be wanting to have the function switched off if I had it on my car...... The X5 has been one of the most desirable to be stolen vehicles in Europe for several years, and from what I know now, it seems that the security on the models fitted with "comfort access" is easier to get around than any of the older models that don't have it..... I'd at least be using one of those devices that is locked over the steering wheel, not perfect, but something to slow down the process of stealing the car, giving them more chance of being caught, so making the car become less of a desirable target compared to others.

You've got to change the ecu to one with comfort access and reprogram everything.

When you order keys they go by the vin. If vin has CA then you will get comfort access key.

If vin doesn't have CA then you get cheap key like mine.

I looked into it. It cost around 2k. I just learned to live with putting key in car.

I have CA on my 2012. I do like it, it is nice to not have to fumble with keys, especially if you have your hands full. That said, I would not go through the trouble and expense to add it, if it wasn't already on the car.

My 2013 has it and I had thought of disabling it but the longer I have owned it the more I have actually used it. So at this point I like it.

As mentioned its was easier to just open the door by touching it if your hands are full in place of digging for the fob in your pocket.

I cant say I would spend money to get it if I didn't have it already but I do like it now.

Worrying about a car getting stolen...worrying about your credit card getting hacked. It’s all insured these days. I’ve got plenty to worry about, but it ain’t that kind of stuff.
