Hey Need some help
Hey guys new to this forum and new to x5
I tried using search button but no luck ok here we go i recently bought a 2009 my10 bmw x5 e70 xdrive35d love the car it came with 18” wheels which look so small so i took my wifes old x6 wheels and had the rears machined to suit the hub the problem is the 315 tyres are hitting inside and wont fit??? my friend has the same car x5 and he has the identical wheels and 315 and fit ? any ideas? |
If your tires rub on your friends car, then something 'isnt identical'
How 'clse' is it? I assume the car/chassis are the same (if it is same model, same year) More likely one of the wheels is different, a knock off, etc. Anyway, I sure like having wheels I can rotate.... |

You need spacers to put 315 on X5 if you don't have the ET built into the wheel. Compare the ET offset on the smaller rims then on the new. I am used to seeing people need to add 20mm spacer to use 315s |
I am running 20" OEM X6 style 597 wheels on my wife's 2010 X35d with factory sized tires (Continental DSW's). I had no fitment issues with my truck.
Definitely check the et on those wheels. Not sure which style of wheel you have, but our 597's are: Front: 20 x 10 ET 40 Rear: 20 x 11 ET 37 I did not have to do any machining of the hubs to get ours to work. I know X6's use a different size front than they do rear hub. I'm not sure which model year(s) this applies to, or if it applies to all of them. So that may be a caveat to the issue you are having. Perhaps the offsets were unsuitable for the ones with larger hubs? |
To the OP...can you give more details as to the wheel style or number so that we know what specs we're discussing? Also, double check to see if the wrong tire was mounted on to the wrong wheel. If the wheels are staggered...and the fronts have a lower offset...perhaps the "315" tires were incorrectly mounted onto the front wheels...which would "push" the tires out further than the wheels with a higher offset. Just a thought. :)
In regards to the X6 having different size center bores (front/rear)...you can see the chart below that it is the e71 X6 and e70 X5M that have the split axle center bore difference: |
ok awesome ill double check the et etc when im back st the warehouse and let use know what they are
|
Measure the actual ET of the "exact" wheels that work. Once you discover how much they are off add spacers of that are the difference eg 15mm and get some. You'll be l spacers with the right hub diameter
