I bought for the front, Zimmerman rotors, Akebono pads, Bowa front sensor for $220. I did the work myself after seeing a few youtube videos and how these mechanics left the caliper hanging by the brake lines. Rears should be a couple bucks cheaper than the fronts. It was a good learning experience for me since I never really did work like this before.

Rotors will warp, but true warping is in fact very rare. The current designs and metallurgy is such that rotors do rather well.

Here is the other thing about uneven pad deposition: turning the rotors- ostensibly to true them up and eliminate the warp- actually removes the pad deposition, thereby 'fixing' the issue. Likewise replacing the 'warped' rotors also results in a fix. The true cause remains hidden!

Zeckhausen has a piece on "Bedding" the brakes. It works.

When I look at my brakes, the pads have a lot of life left, but I don't think the rotors have ever been replaced (I'm at 106k miles). There is a large "step" on the edge of the rotor. I would bet they are below minimum thickness. I need to measure.

Entropy- When measuring pads, take a look at the outside pad AND the inside pad. They don't necessarily wear at the same rate.
Do measure the rotor thickness.
Lots of pad? A little feathering on the edge does not bother me.
Sounds like a repad on old rotors. 106k? Rotors don't need to wear out with mileage. They wear out from use and application. Live in Flat florida? Can you see your dog run away for two days?
PNW? You have some hills. Sounds like your doing well at 106k.

There's on additional component to this. Bedding is important. So is torque. You will not have problems, in general, if the shop uses a hand torque wrench. Most will not- they use a wobble stick that will not keep torque equal.

When they say it's no problem, ask them if they use on cylinder head bolts. They will say no.

I'm needing pads and rotors also. Looking at Centric Premium High-Carbon or Brembo rotors and Centric Posi-Quiet semi-metallic, Akebono Euro or Performance Ceramic or Hawk LTS or HPS pads.

I will use OE sensors and it looks like the pads come with all the hardware but I'll probably buy new guide pins and Torx mounting screws just in case.

I took Ard's advise and got Centric rotors and Akebono Ceramic Pads, no more brake dust, and they have been doing really well on the X5. Very happy!

Cost about $700 installed for all 4

However have issue on the 335i. There is a squealing noise below 20mph in the fronts, will look into the bedding procedure, maybe that could solve it?

How is the dust level with the new pads? The F series BMWs have a lot less dust than our E series and I want something better than OEM with my next change.

For your noise you may want to try the CRC product. I use it for all brake changes for 20+ years. It basically glues the pad to the caliper preventing any vibration noise. https://www.amazon.com/CRC-05016-Dis...rc+brake+quiet

My E70 grew up in Kentucky and then made its way to the PNW in 2014 or so (it’s an ‘07). I’m guessing it was re-padded without touching the rotors at least once. I’ll take a look at the inside pads.

No Dust at all, period. The car gets dirtier than the wheels now.

Have bought the CRC product, but haven't had the time to put it. Will try that as well.

I had some brake noise after I changed my pads and rotors. This may be something to look into although the sound would be there no matter the speed. Maybe if you go faster the wind noise gets louder than the squealing?
