Might be a bit of a challenge to install the new water pump in reverse, but I'll give it a try. I plan to tape the bottom bolt in place prior to positioning the pump.

Good call on the tape, I'll cross my fingers for you that it goes back in as easy as it came out. I also tried that with mine but I still had two/three full rotations of the bolt before my bolt actually came out of the block. Hmm, now I'm wondering what the difference is... not that it was a huge pain to pull that pulley, just 8 more bolts and a bit of cursing to get it realigned and bolted back on [emoji16]

Gotta call it a night. Belts are off, hose #1 and #5 are removed. #5 broke when I gave it a yank trying to get it off so really glad I planned on it.

I work super slow.... Things are tight enough I can't imagine what I'd have to do if I stripped something.

I'm a bit concerned about the goo in the PCV. I have the replacement parts so all good there but should I be worried about the amount of goo that's probably in the hose?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...49358ab904.jpg

You can pull the hoses off (if you don't have new ones) and get the funk out of them by running really hot water through them. I'm sure non corrosive cleaner would work too but I wouldn't want to make the tubes any more brittle than they are. Definitely pull them and clean them out if you can.

That looks nasty!

Do a VCG maintenance....and plugs.

I'll do that. Thanks.

Getting there slowly but surely. Really messed up not making time this weekend. Only having an hour or two after work makes for slow progress.

Can totally relate, I bought everything, belts, hoses, tensioners, vanos seals, vacuum tubing, wp, thermostat, trans thermostat, timing and valve cover gaskets, expansion tank, etc in hopes of a long weekend and ended up being out of the driver seat for about 7 or 8 days.

I agree with your strategy though, slow and steady and done one time, very well [emoji106]

Yep, worked fine. Loosely taped the bottom bolt to the new pump, inserted the bottom of the pump first (top angled forward) with the bolt behind the crank pulley, lined up the bolt with the hole, then fit the pump over the pipes. Worked very well - very little fiddling.

Nice! Very glad that worked, would have been a super bummer to have to pull the pulley now. How close are you to having the your X running again?

Will take me a couple of hours to reassemble everything, fill and bleed the coolant, and road test. Will get around to it an hour at a time over the next few nights.

Hoping there's no more knocking sound, as I didn't take the A/C belt off to check the A/C compressor and tensioner. Water pump was definitely shot so I'm hoping that was all.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you for sure - silver lining, I heard and thought the same thing when my pump went and thankfully once I had it all buttoned up the issue was fixed.

Though I did go a bit overboard with parts replacement, which I justified to the wife as preventative maintenance [emoji106]
