Play Iphone music through aux/usb

Hi All,

I want to play music through an iphone 6, my 2009 X5 has the USB & Aux connectors in the centre console, my hope was that the car screen would show the music and i could control it through the idrive/steering wheel but this is not the case, I go to Aux > USB & it says "not recognised" any idea's ??

I think you're on the same idrive CIC version as my '08. I'm on an Android S8+, but the AUX function is pretty basic - nothing shows on screen other than it stating you're on AUX. So the AUX cable just plugs into the headphone jack and you'd use whatever player on the phone and start the music (Google Play Music).

I don't know anything about connecting via USB but the beauty of AUX is you can also just get a bluetooth dongle to plug into the AUX port and have the car act as a wireless bluetooth speaker. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WSFTTV

My setup is with that plus a magnetic vent mount for the phone to control the music there and also accessible for GPS maps. Simple and wireless.

Are you using the Y cable to hook the phone to the vehicle? And a 2009 probably doesn't have the combox, right? Check your CCC or CIC owners booklet...you may be looking for some features that pre-date your BMW's build date.

This is what I used before I replaced my idrive. https://www.amazon.com/Bovee-WMA3000...s=bmw+tune2air

when you use AUX mode, as i had previously added on mine, you cannot control from the steering wheel or see any titles of music. When i had mine i set my ipod to play a certain playlist and i would only change it when i was stopped, this was a pain in the ass, but i managed, but i was using a ipod classic at the time

My original i-drive was the 1st gen CCC system. It then had a MULF with USB only and no bluetooth for music streaming. Tune2air adds bluetooth music to BMW with MULF and allows song skips from the steering wheel and song info in the display.

I replaced my i-drive with the 2nd gen CIC and added a combox. I now have factory bluetooth streaming for phone and music.

I stream using an aux / USB unit I purchased on amazon for $6. I have to control using my iphone which is mounted on a CD player mount but it's cheap / easy and maintains an OEM look in the cabin.

Hello. I have a'09 X5 35d with the Apple 30-pin in the glove box to connect to an iPod. I wanted to know if anyone is using the following 30-pin to Lightning&3.5 audio plug adapter to connect their iPhone. If so, do your steering wheel controls work for song selection, etc.? I have an iPod in my glove box now, but would like the unlimited access that my phone offers through music services like Amazon, Spotify, etc. Thanks!
