Each has its charm, and all of them rust and seize in their own special way. My E46 went really smoothly a few years back, but it's never seen a Canadian winter with all of the salt we have on the roads. A few years prior to that my E36 (same config as E46) was a nightmare. One of the bolts holding the rear trailing arm seized in the chassis pocket, and had to be drilled out. I can't think of a worse job, but that's probably just a failure of my imagination.
On a positive note, self-medication is blunting the pain :p:

My technical inspection turned up an advisory the rear subframe bushes, so they need changing now at 210,000km. Anyone here done them - are they similar to E53? Any diy vids about...?

Seems everyone makes a tool set for the E53, but I cannot find any for the E70.

My subframe bushings appear to need replacement. A local BMW indy refused the job :dunno: without explanation, so I suspect they don't have a tool either.

Fine - I'll do it myself. I plan to remove the bushings destructively, then make a press tool to install the new one. When I'm done I'll post pics and a DIY.
