Upgrading dead pedal

So I searched, but didn't find any topics on how to remove the OEM plastic dead pedal and replace it with an ///M dead pedal. I tried to pull the old pedal straight out, but that didn't work. Then I tried to wedge a big screwdriver and force it from left to right, but that didn't work.

Anyone replaced their dead pedal, and can share DIY instructions?

thanks

I did not DIY - I paid the dealer for the hour of labor to replace - $140, looks and fits like factory now and matches the other sport aluminum pedals I installed myself

I believe many aftermarket pedals are mounted on top of the OEM pedal. Is this not the case with M pedal?

No the M pedal replaces the factory dead pedal -

So, I learned to DIY myself. The factory pedal has a C shaped bracket at the top which is wedged in by the panel right above your feet. First step is to remove the 3 phillips screws, then remove the panel just below the steering wheel. Next, the fun part: The good folks at BMW decided to glue the pedal on. Let me rephrase that...they decided to GLUE the pedal on. It's impossible to remove the plastic factory dead pedal without using a single edge box cutter knife underneath the pedal to cut away the glue as you pull the pedal off the carpet. It's going to rip some shreds in the carpet, but don't worry, the new OEM ///M pedal covers that, and you can't see the damage done from cutting away the glue. Once you put the pedal in its place, reinstall the panel above your feet/under the steering wheel, and VOILA!....///M dead pedal. The pedal is pretty secure without glue, especially once you put the floor mat back in, but I may, one day I've got nothing else to do, slather some glue behind it.

^Thanks for sharing, I did notice it was clipped in by the panel below the steering wheel - by the time I got the proper adhesive, took off the panel on the steering wheel and did the R&R, would have been a half day job for me LOL

$140 well spent in my opinion as it was in for service anyway.
