Excellent write up. I also have the N62 engine in my 650i. Last year I did the stem seals using the AGA tool, upper timing cover seals, alternator bracket seals etc and when putting the upper timing cover back on a stripped a thread, so I did a temporary repair to get me going but anyway lately I've been struck with electrical gremlins, fixed them now but my tep fix on the upper cover seal started to leak quite badly so I decided to remove the left hand rocker cover and upper timing cover to change the seals and came across this...…
https://i840.photobucket.com/albums/...115_144126.jpg I too have eccentric shaft teeth issues!! so I googled the issue and came across your post. I have a few questions if you don't mind me asking?.....first off where did you get the blue special tool that holds the cam assembly? I can get the N62 cam timing kit off eBay, that's ok but that blue piece I'm struggling to find. Next question, TIS states to remove the exhaust "adjustment Unit" (cam timing gear), does this need to be removed? or can I keep it attached as I'm only doing the inlet side of things? Thanks for any tips and help you give Sorry, I don't know why the picture is blurry? |
eccentric shaft bearings - N62
I watched a YouTube video with a guy doing the ValveTronic on a different engine. M52 I think. But anyway he mentioned that the bearings for the eccentric shaft are plastic. I'm assuming he meant the bearing cages.
My question is, are the bearings for the eccentric shafts on the N62 engine the same ? |
Can this eccentric cam be replaced without the Valvetronic Bridge Support tool set ?

Hi folks, I was having trouble accessing my account - my apologies for the lack of response. To answer the most recent question, do you need the bridge tool, I would say "yes." I purchased mine off ebay, and sold it on ebay after the job.
I think I saw somewhere in there a question about the cam bearings being plastic, and yeah - something about that rings a bell. I can go through photos to confirm. Cheers. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
