How do you put the X5 on jack stand from the side?
 

I don't have room in my garage to put the floor jack in front center jack point to lift the front end up and place it on jack stands.

Is there a jack point I can use to jack up from the side and then place the jack stand? I don't want to work under the car with just the floor jack holding it up.

Does E70 not have jack pad locations on the side ??

Is there a reason you can't reach the front center jack pad from the side vs from the front? Try going from the side (at an angle))...then lift the front end of the car high enough to place your jack stands beneath the rubber jack pads below the rocker panel and behind the front wheels. You may need to extend the jack's handle...but that's easy...like find a pipe that can slip over the end of your jack handle that can extend your pumping action from further back...as you align the jack below the front center jack pad.

If that still doesn't give you enough room...can you turn the X5 in the other direction by backing into your garage? That will allow you to go in from the front of the vehicle (with the garage door up)...then once the X is on jack stands...you can lower the garage door if you need it to be closed due to cold weather.

My experience with my M5 in what is probably a narrow garage similar to yours required two jacks. The first one is used to lift the car using a front jack pad high enough to remove the wheel. Once that is done, go from the side, at an angle if necessary, to get to the center jack point with the second jack. Continue lifting the car with that second jack, remove the first jack when able and place it on jack stands as desired. I probably had less than two feet on either side if I remember correctly.

it does, but if i jack it up from the jack pad location, I don't a spot for the jack stand. It's not safe to work under the car just with the hydraulic jack.

I don't have room in front of the X5 for a trolley jack.

When was the last time your floor jack collapsed?

Jack it up with the floor jack, put something (anything) under for safety: a jackstand, a tire on its side...anything to give you survival space.

Over the next 40 years you will never need it.

However, if you need to get the car up on BOTH sides, this obviously wont work

I used a really simple, quality, but inexpensive bottle jack as the first jack.
