Headlight Out, Short Corcuit FRM

Drivers side light was out, angel eyes and side lights worked. Swapped bulb and the ballast, still nothing. Removed the whole light, and plugged it into the passengers side and everything works! That’s where I found out about the issue being within the FRM.

What’s the best way to fix this, as I’ve never dealt with anything regarding the FRM. I’ve seen a repair service, but also used ones for sale. Share what you guys have done.

If you have ista-p you can flash the frm module which applies a good version of the software that doesn't have the bugged programming.
It recovered my friend's frm a while back ago and his was frozen... Not just the short circuit counter bug

try to contact your local dealer, for mine 2012 car the frm has extended warranty (though the warranty expired long time ago)

Yes so that is what I am doing. I showed them a bulletin that I found online regarding this issue. I have an appointment scheduled tommorow

I didn’t have the dealer do anything. There might be a short that caused this code. When I swapped the headlight to the other side it worked. So I would guess there is no issue within the headlight?

Does anyone know if the Foxwell tool will reset the FRM? Or do I have to flash the Fromm with ISTA D of similar

Ista P can flash and code the frm. It can recover it too.
Ista P would bring it back to factory state after updating, resetting the short counter.

Not sure if ista D/Rheingold can reset the counter. Look around in the menus you might find a troubleshooting tool/instructions in there
I forget where but there's some thread I read using tool32 to reset the short circuit counter which can get stuck.
Try searching for "tool32 reset short counter frm"

What did the dealer try and put down as the minimum cost to look?

It was going to be 1-2.5 hrs of labor, said the service manager. So $120-300 minimum. I already got a head start on this and didn’t want to dish money away if I can find the issue myself.

I have a foxwell NT510 scanner. I was able to test the lights when I accessed FRM module from the menu. The test activated it for 15 seconds. I’m not sure if the counter is bypassed when using the test function. If it is, it makes sense. I suppose there is a short somewhere that has eventually tripped the circuit. My next thing will be to connect the drivers side headlight to passengers side harness, and see if it will detect any shorts

I went this route and reset the counter using tool set 32. As of right now the headlight is working. We’ll see if this lasts, or if I still have a short present.
