Tires 255 vs 275/285

Hello,

Currently have the standard 255/50r19 Michelin tires. Want to go a little wider without requiring spacers. So I am debating if I should go 275 or 285. I have read numerous threads and some say they've needed a spacer with 285s and some have said 285 fit perfectly.

Also going back and forth on Nitto Motivo and Continental Extreme Contact DWS06.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Welcome!

Are you planning to put wider tires on the same wheels? If so, I wouldn’t recommend it.

What width rims?

Entropy - Yup, I'm planning on putting new tires on same wheels. By going a little wider you think that'll cause a problem using same wheels?

Look at the full specs on the 275/45-19 DWS06s...will mount on the 9" rim. Look at the 'section width'- this is the fat part of the tire. By looking at your current set up, on the car, you should be able to visually determine if it will clear.

I think the section width will be less than 0.3 inch more. Only half of that on each side. You gain about 0.9" in tread

Trick: Select front 255 and rear at 275 on tirerack, then click on 'specs' ...it will then list the two specs on the same page so you can compare easily.

Not so much of a “problem,” I just really don’t like the look of tires that are bulgy on wheels. 265 is as wide as I’d go on a 9” wide wheel. You could run 265/50... slightly taller than stock which is not a problem. Only problem is there is limited selection in that size.
