Just bought '12 X5

Picked up a 2012 x35i, w/47k miles with extended warranty for almost 3 more years. I'd been considering a replacement to my wife's MINI Countryman but had really been focusing more on the compact SUVs. She already had an e83 X3 prior to the Countryman so I had been looking at other brands. She simply needed more room and kids were dying in the summer since the Countryman didn't have rear A/C.

So I was browsing pre-owned cars and came across this local X5. Met with the owner and bought it the following day! He was a retired guy with 3 cars and his wife had to quit driving so a few cars had to go. It looks like no one ever used the rear seats - nice! It was a CPO vehicle and he bought an extended warranty so that was a big selling point for me. Needless to say my wife was very surprised when I told her I bought her a car replacement ... she didn't even know I was looking!! Not sure about any mods/changes on horizon, I'll need to keep lurking this forum for ideas.

Nice!

I like the color combo, good find.

very nice pickup! i have a 2012 35d also in space grey/cinnamon brown. i have loved the color combo from day one.

I love seeing cars sold privately. Good find.

Not all 'extended warranties' are the same, just don't be overly reliant on that warranty when something comes up. For example don't just drop it at the dealer with a "$200 minimum, but the warranty will over it", thinking you are protected- dealer may call and say 'you owe us $200 now, and anohter 2200 to fix". Just saying. Ask here first! ;)

Any service history with that? Nice low miles, but age might lead to some basic maintenance soon.

Enjoy!

wildtt/kankou: thx - I also like the color combo. I wasn't sure she'd want gray but she likes it quite a bit, especially the interior color.

ard: I was searching in a 500 mile vicinity so when I noticed it was local it made it much easier. When I met the guy he brought records from Dealer as well as claims from the warranty (last year) and recent brakes. From there I visited a local BMW Dealer to have them review the history with me (he approved), verify they've heard/used the warranty company (UAL - owned by Penske according to them), and then actually speak to the warranty company to verify it could be transferred, the terms and coverage. It's a $100 deductible so not bad.

Congrats. Welcome to the fam.

great find! The one thing I regret about my purchase was not searching and obtaining an extended warranty

The combo of location/low miles/warranty made it an easy decision. I wouldn't buy one without the warranty. Even with low miles the age/weather begins to break down parts so I want to be covered.

Nice pick up! I've been looking at 2012-2013 x5 35i lately as well for my wife as an upgrade from our current 2005 model. Do you mind sharing what the price was roughly?

I think it's unusual to find one at that low mileage, good pick up for sure. I like the 2014 which is the new model but its roughly $10k more than a 2012/2013 so we'll probably keep looking at these model years.

I hadn't planned any upgrades - maybe the black grill - but a moot point now ...

We were in an accident and the car is being deemed a total loss. Short lived, but we loved the E70. We're bummed; now considering something a few years newer for a replacement, maybe 2015-2016.

It was a nice color combo and I liked the wheels. Good luck with the search.

Bummer. Did you get screwed on the payout?

Post the VIN.
It may protect a future owner from buying a washed title.

Good luck on the search.

Good luck on the search.

The VIN is 5UXZV4C52CL751903. I doubt anyone looking will find it in this thread - is there another one where members consolidate this type of info?

ard 10-07-2019 10:33 PM

Google will find the VIN.

In the future, anyone searching a vin in google may be able to find this thread.

And more importantly... The auction sale for the x5 when the insurance company sells it.

FWIW. Scumbags at google play games with VIN look ups. You generally get two full pages of 'fake' content that is designed to make it look like there is something bad or hidden about your vin. Like fake salvage auction sites, or fake accident reporting sites...but all end in a 'here, buy our service to give more info'

I think google suppresses auction site results,& old sales advertisments. At the least, they push them down.

crystalworks 10-09-2019 12:50 AM

^oh for sure. Lots of SEO for those scummy VIN services. I usually use those results combined with image results to find potential issues. Many times I've found previous sales of my vehicles I'm viewing from dealerships that they were purchased from by the current owner.

Bennettrindge 10-16-2019 09:09 PM

Extended third party warranty's are b#ullshit. Find a good ide BMW mechanic and you will save over the long term. N55 are good drivetrains!

Bennettrindge 10-16-2019 09:47 PM

Playing financial games with dealerships and you are gonna fail. This is what they are good at. Hit them after the fact and you will win, they know most consumers don't fight.

MillerMav 10-17-2019 07:58 AM

Nice grab! I have that same interior color and love it.
