So my replaced handle isn't responding, and the passenger rear has been acting goofy. For a long time it wouldn't work at all, now it senses when a hand is put in it, but unlocks doors OTHER than the door with the hand in it LOL

Here we go again...

Hi All,

(2012 X5)

I'm looking for some guidance regarding my ongoing issue with comfort access malfunctioning and causing high battery discharge. This problem has persisted for years despite replacing multiple handles and even getting a new battery.

When I leave the car and use comfort access to lock it, everything works fine for about five minutes. During this time, I can use comfort access to lock and unlock all four handles, and if I start the car, there is no high battery discharge issue. However, after approximately five minutes, the comfort access system seems to "reset" and malfunctions, affecting all four handles. As a result, I have to use the key fob to unlock the car and receive a high battery discharge message upon starting the vehicle.

Any insight & help is greatly appreciated

Do you have access to an IR Camera? Or temperature gun? When the handle malfunctions in the way you describe it usually means it will get warm (laws of physics dictate *something* is for sure getting warm. I don't know if it will get warm enough to feel but it will show up on an IR camera is it's enough for high drain warning.

^ I wonder if he has an issue with something else on the buss hanging up- ie 'always sending signals'- which keeps the CAS (?) awake, or even fills it up and causes it to reset.

Austn- do you have access to BMW software tools? like ISTA?

Appreciate the suggestion, I don't have an IR Camera or Temp Gun, but will definitely go out to buy one today, good to have for this and grilling. I certainly cant tell a temp difference by touch between any of the handles. Will get back tomorrow once I get the temp gun

I don't have access to the BMW-specific software tool, ran OBD at my local AutoZone and of course, it wasn't helpful. Can BMW effortlessly connect their equipment and pinpoint the problem without conducting extensive diagnostics?

no.

If you take it to the dealer, you will deal with guesswork or a bid to replace thousands of dollars worth of stuff...

You'd need to scan modules and try to figure out which is failing/failed.... and that is just a guess.

ISTA can be downloaded...the cable can be a fiddle, but maybe look into it?
