Rear diff upgrade?
 

Hi guys,

I own a e70 3.0D 2007 without towing package and I'm often a 1.4T boat.

I saw all the post about rear diff failure (standard version diff 33107602984) on pre LCI model.

I found a used diff of the post LCI / towing package version which is upgraded and doesn't seems to fail (33107552523). It is cheap enough I'm thinking about purchasing it and just keep it in the garage just in case the worse happen.

Here is my question:
Did one of you upgraded from 33107602984 (standard version) to 33107552523 (towing/post LCI version)?

Looking at RealOEM I might have to get the output shafts too,the code seems to be different:33208609838 for standard, 33208609839 for towing. They have both the same diameter 34mm.

Drive flange hub and collar are the same.

Is there any other parts I would have to swap?

You will need to make sure that the gearing ratios are the same.

yes they are identical: 3.64 ratio

Out of curiosity was there any issues with the swapover? Ive recently encounted the same issue with the diff failure and have brought the towing diff instead initially by mistake but now looking to see what else i will need to replace in order to get it all to fit up. Cheers
