Transmission pan options...?
 

as some know the X5M ALUMINUM transmission pan (PN: 24117588752) fits all of the 6HP26Z transmissions, some aluminum fin modification may be necessary to clear the different cross members...

what is the temp change from running the Plastic to the Aluminum pan... ??

furthermore anyone ever added a trans cooler, beyond the small OEM version... ?

Are you towing? If not, it all sounds like a waste of money. The factory cooler is more than adequate.

The oem “cooler” is an odd setup ...it is a heat exchanger with the radiator which runs nearly 100C and the trans is happier down around 60C

How do you know where the trans is happier?
100C is optimal as moisture buildup due to condensation boils out.
Also many additives in oils only work at higher temperatures.

Also closed system so there should not be any moisture (H2O) in oil, if there is water it a transmission the boiling water at 100C is gonna reek havoc on solenoid seals and clutch packs

I am very courteous for feedback from the E70 X5d community, as the M57 is a torque monster... if I keep this vehicle, DPF/SCR deletes with 2.5 tune are on my horizon, and I don’t want to be smoke checking the transmission

I'd do a cooler.


The heat exchanger is a decent way to get the trans UP to temp as well. By tying the temp to the engine/oil system, it is easier to manage- engineering wise



Id also monitor your trans temps and EGT.


100% agree that temps kill trans. DOesnt take much to overheat, damage seals...then death begins. Not sure about that chart tho... ;)

Yeah, that chart seems to have an agenda.

Personally, I don't think an additional cooler is necessary. Air moving across the radiator and the engine coolant thermostat working with the transmission fluid thermostat works pretty well to keep temperatures in check.

You tow. Maybe you need a separate cooler. What temperature does your transmission fluid run at when your towing?

No, there's a thermostat on the transmission cooler that only opens when the temps get hot.

I changed mine a while back. The coolant loop has the thermostat. It was closed at room temp.
The trans fluid flows through that thermostat which opens the coolant flow when hot.
