Bosch is the OEM plug for virtually every other BMW model, I'd be surprised if it wasn't for the X5 as well.

One thing I've learned from the 5 BMW's I've had over the years, when it comes to ignition issues, never replace single parts and always use OEM. Bad plug or coil, means I automatically replace every plug or coil in the vehicle. Can't say I've ever had an issue with receiving fake OEM parts though. And I order from the cheapest source there is, Rockauto.com.

When I worked the back service counter at the dealer, we would get cars in for service with Bosch plugs from the factory. This was going back to E39, E38, E53 chassis era. At that time the ETK gave the parts team both options of NGK or Bosch (it still does actually). We would just ask the tech what he pulled out and gave the replacement for the same plug brand. Over time, people just started requesting NGK over the Bosch.

BOSCH coils from Slovenia are absolute SHIT. I too ordered from RockAuto, the damn car could barely idle. I replaced with all ELDOR coils and ZERO issues. I am going to make a separate thread about this, enough is enough.

HOWEVER, NGK was the OEM for quite a few BMW motors. (I think especially pre 2009).

Wholeheartedly agree with the advice you use exact OE or OEM replacements on plugs. It would be a super odd situation where I replace only one. MORE important than the same 'name' on the plug, is the design and temp ratings. Buying a 'upgraded' plug based on hype and marketing can lead to issues, as we have seen.

Significant counterfeit issues with MAF sensors in some BMWs.

Bosch coils has been the gold standard for a LOT of enthusiast well after BMW made the move from them with coils. Eldor is currently, and has been for a few years, the OE (on certain not all applications) after many many revised Bosch coils through BMW. And current stock show BMW/Eldor being "made in Turkey".

one autolite spark plug is working fine no misses.
 

I have the original Bosch plug should it develop a miss. My conclusion Autolite is fine, now likely only good for 50k miles not 100k.
Sorry guys do not see the problem with a odd plug or autolite. I like doing blind taste tests .... people will often pick the cheaper store brand Coke vs. Coke a Cola , go figure

The issue on this thread is all about new coils not working in E70 4.8l X5 that do work in E46 3.2 liter 330i. There appears to be a manufacturing issue with new coils that do not work for all the BMW types they are suppose to. Bad news to think a new coil should work and it does not.

Haven't worked on enough BMW's then. It's great that you found your issue, but for future reference, BMW's are VERY contrary about plugs that aren't OEM. I've chased enough misfires in my day after replacing plugs and swapping coils around that it's just a no mess around issue with me. Makes you want to burn the car down when you've spent 3 days chasing misfires, only to find out it's the brand new plugs you put in in the first place.

My 2007 X5 4.8l does not have turbos .... thank God!
The plugs were replaced by prior owner at about 95k five years ago ... they are Bosch not sure if that was a dealership that pt those in. One autolite is working fine and until it developes a miss on cylinder five that autolite will stay there. Should the one autolite fail I will report it here. I hope I have no big issues with X5 and it hangs in there until 200k ... that will be then be about 2027 and it will be time for something else. :rofl:
