Oh, those kind of stripes.

josiahg52 07-18-2019 09:45 PM

I think this one was an M5. Yeah, pretty sure.

They look stupid and only belong on a race car in which case you'll probably have dozens of other stickers on it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...dab78cf771.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...cca1a178d2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...b610c410dc.jpg

That stripe may be in the photograph...but I have my doubts as to it actually being painted or adhered to that BMW....or is it just me?

:wow::popcorn::wow:

If I was a betting man...I'd put my money on that most BMWs that have stripes applied to them will 99% of the time be a model that has a 1, 2, 3, or 4 in its nomenclature (or it's a MINI :D). This applique of stripes usually isn't something BMW owners with larger vehicles are into (5/6/7/X5/X7)...so you're probably not going to find a lot of example. But again, if you do a search for 1, 2, 3, 4 series BMW w/stripes...you'll probably find what you're looking for. :)

It ia. 2000 Oxford Green. I checked the VIN. I learned later that it belonged to a jeweler from the area. Haven't seen it many years.

Good god.

For those in the know was it the e36 LTW that started this? It worked on that car.

Zulu95 07-23-2019 05:11 PM

Back in the 70's it was rumored that stripes such as those shown would make a car at least 10 mph faster than those without.
I'm not sure now if that was only in the mind of the owner.

Nope. With the advent of computerized stripe analysis technology it has now been PROVEN to add 9.8HP

Hmmmmm. I wonder if anyone has ever put stripes across the vehicle and if the analysis shows they slow the vehicle? :D

jeep 07-25-2019 01:56 PM

Stripe pics

The stripes could definitely slow a vehicle by increasing the drag coefficient, but they can also act as a good bug deflector[emoji12]

Bug deflector: Would they only work on bees?

:bustingup :bustingup :bustingup ....it took a second to get this...but then I scrolled back up and saw the white dots on E39LV's front license plate...OMG, I busted out in laughter...that was TOO funny. :bustingup

BTW, its not that I don't like stripes...I was just inferring that it is usually something found on the smaller/sportier BMW models which probably has a different demographic than the larger BMW models. Not that they don't fit the look or should be used on them.

Again, just a simple generalization...similar to the coffee can exhaust found on many small Asian sport cars...you usually don't see them installed on the larger sedans (not that it doesn't occur)...it just usually not seen and is more of a rare occurrence. :).

There's no hate for stripes from the Q-meister. :D

Asymmetrical stripes look as stupid as the kids who go around with one pant leg up. Fail.

A clay bar kit costs about $7 from your local auto store. It’s not a wax product though, quite the opposite. It removes deposits and buildup on the surface of the car. It’s a very easy thing to do yourself and it’s well with the effort. A proper wax application is necessary following a clay bar.

Easy DIY? Cool. How do you apply it then-with a wheel?
Thanks

You don't. It's literally a bar. You spray the paint surface with a lubricating liquid and then "clay bar" the paint. No wheel.

Gotcha. Sounds tedious. Even If the bar is large. Don't know anything about them yet so do they come in different sizes?

No, they're pretty much the size of a bar of bath soap. Some are smaller even. None are probably larger than an average-sized person's hand.
