Comfort Seat Cushion Repair
Hi all,
I searched to see if there was any information out there on replacing worn out cushions on E70 comfort seats and did not find anything. On my drivers seat bottom, the left side bolster and cushion is worn out at 100k miles from the previous owner slipping out of the car. I was wondering if there is a way to repair this cushion as the seat bottom is clearly sagging and just generally feels uncomfortable and won out. Any tips on this? TIA |

Based on the picture in this link, this is exactly what I am dealing with. The drivers side seat cushion at the thigh area is just deformed from slipping out of the seat and is leading to reduced comfort. Leather condition is OK so I may just need to see if I can source a used seat that is not as worn out. |

why not then just fix the cushion???? |

You can try watching some generic videos on youtube about doing the job. Seat covers don't come apart all that different on most vehicles. I need to do the same thing, but for how cheap it is to have an upholstery shop do it, I can't see myself doing the grunt work on this one. |
I went to a local upholstering shop - the guy does luxury cars. His shop is a hole in the wall but he has hundreds of rolls of seat covering. He restuffed my driver's seat and it is SO comfortable again. My X5 has 315,000 kms on it. All but 45,000 of those kms are mine. He charged me $200 (CDN) cash and even polished the leather a bit. I am so happy I found this guy. I found him by asking in a Montreal BMW Facebook group, the answer came in minutes. So maybe that would be helpful to you.

Wheeler dealer just did an episode on an E55 AMG refresh. In it they sent out the driver seat to a seat refurb place to repair the side bolster. You can check out how they repair the bolster.
They did a great job. |
This is how I fixed my E90 seat. E70 may be similar. Remove the plastic with the switches on the side. Then un-clip the cover from the lower metal frame. The entire cushion and cover will now come off. The cover is held to the cushion with a few hog ring clips. Replace the cushion and reinstall everything. The cover can easily be re-died if there are areas where the leather color is worn off.
EDIT> I just checked my comfort seats. They are more complicated than my E90. I would recommend you tilt the entire seat assembly back to get a better view of how to dissemble. Remove the 4 bolts that go into the floor. That should allow you to lean the seat back and see what is under it. If you want to unhook the wiring, unhook the battery first to prevent your airbag light from coming on. |

Could you kindly share his contact info? I have a bit of a worn seat bottom myself and had a quote of $650. I'm about 6 hours away from Montreal but may consider making a mini vacation out of the trip. Thanks |
