Fault Code P0015 Exhaust Camshaft Position - Reset Issue
 

Hi all-
My 2008 3.0si is giving an issue. Oil sludge engine and engine check light on with code P0015 (exhaust camshaft Position Timing - Over-retarded Bank 1).
I am running with this error code for 4 days until today (weekend).
Start engine, after 5-10 seconds, the RPM higher than 1 stalling idle and back to normal.

Today I have done:

1. Oil change
2. Replaced both VVT (Exhaust and Intake) Selenoid sensors
3. Replaced Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)

Starting the engine, the check engine light is still there with the same code.
Reset check engine light and light does not go off.

Open the hood, verifying all sensors position, wire connections and they are all good.

Any ideas why it doesn't resolve the problem?

Uh, because the sensor wasnt bad?


Maybe the vanos position control solenoid is all sludged up and not properly moving the camshaft?


Do you have the tools to run a VANOS function test?


To clean the solenoids, remove and flush with carb cleaner. Actuate w 5VDC. You are looking to hear a nice sharp snap/click. Use spray cans and flush it well, several times


My guess..... part of the problem of thinking OBD codes are 'parts replacement look up tables'... :(

I guess so! I will try to flush engine (not a good idea?) next oil change next week.

I clean 2 old VVT selenoid before replacing 2 brand new VVT today using youtube method found here:

All VVTs sensors are working/functioning.

My guess was the same, I reset engine check light via ODB reset tool, it did not erase the code. I also reset engine check light by using battery disconnected method. All are no luck :(

Sigh.


How did this engine get 'sludged'?????????????? THis isnt a normal thing. You shouldnt have to 'flush engines'.




Not sure what a 'solenoid sensor' is..... I guess I missed that you replace the vanos solenoids as well. I just read sensors only.


(The video is a mess. That is NOT a adequate solenoid flush...but you said you replaced it with new? So they rules it out)



What code reader are you using?


And there is no 'battery disconnect method'.
