E70 transmission fluid replacement

I have never replaced the tranny fluid on either of my E70's . 2011 has 100K and the 2012 has 110K. I have read and been advised by my mechanic that changing the fluid can be risky. It seems to me not replacing the fluid beyond 100K is also risky. Can't imagine tranny lasting 125K+ on original fluid. I do have the money to replace tranny if it occurred but would prefer not to, obviously. On a side note I replace engine oil generally whenever I bring it into the shop, generally between 6k-12k mile interval. As they get older, would more frequent change be better? My mechanic has said he prefers 7.5K intervals if I remember correctly. I have read too frequent changes with full synthetic is not optimal.

Also should note I have zero issues with both tranny's currently and they are both N55.

E70 transmission fluid replacement

Change the trans oil using the gravitational way, so you will replace like 6-7 litres of oil.
Dont flush it!
ZF recomends servicing the trans first at 100.000 km then at each 60.000 km done. The service requires an oil change and the oil pan with filter.
Regarding the engine oil, i personally change it along with fuel, oil and air filters after 12.000 km.
Ps. I dont like miles :)) so you will have to do the conversion from miles to kilometers.

Thanks for the info. I will discuss this with my mechanic.

"mechanics" have come to the conclusuons that fluid changes are 'risky' based on a ridiculous confluence of factors...

1. People ignore transmission maintenance
2. Then, when they start getting shift issues they come in for a fluid change
3. Some time afterwards the trans dies
4. Mechanics decide the fluid change caused the issue.

Do not listen to these guys.

Indeed dealers and large shops are tired of customers claiming 'you broke my trans'. It is easier for them to just avoid the whole thing. Many will quote astronomical prices, 800-1200, to sidestep the issue.

Drain and fill. Change the mechatronics sleeve... done properly this isnt a big deal.

I will do that, thanks. About how much should it cost?

ARD is right. There are too many voodoo stories on this board..... You should get the TC and diffs done as well. Cheap insurance!

My take is that changing the trans fluid will help keep the trans in shape but it is not a silver bullet. I am contemplating to have my E70 done soon (did it the first time at 80 or 90 k) and I am definitely going to do my new to me Cayenne. Apparently Porsche is selling the same lifetime BS but apparently transfer cases are failing and some think that replacing the fluid timely helps.

Yes both the cayenne and the macan. Haven't heard or read about trans failures with these cars however. But yes sounds like drain and fill for everything is the prudent option.

How much do you like the cayanne compared to your X5?
